Finally got around to finishing up the port matching on one of my turbine housings today. I first brought up the subject here: [ http://www.twinturbo.net/nissan/300zx/forums/general/view/2185289/Holy-unmatched-port-batman.html ] So I took a few pics just to show the difference in port sizes between the ported and unported turbine housings. Here is the the marking I made to show where the edge of the gasket after I port matched the gasket to the manifold:
...and here are some pics of the ported and unported turbine housings:

I'm no proffesional at this and it can be difficult to do this with a dremel and trying to figure out what bits work best. I found that diamond bits work best for the brunt of the work a high RPM and the small sand paper drums and aluminum oxide bits work best at low RPM since they like to explode at 35,000RPM. I'm sure the porting should improve spool up somewhat, and maybe even minimal high end power gains, but I don't think that has ever been documented or proven. All I can do is just hope. :)
**SELLING: Stock >> driveshaft, 6 TT injectors with used rail, new style brand new rail, oem intercoolers, IC ducts, TT radiator, clutch fan, used turbos, turbo manifolds, charcoal tonneau cover, a few more odds and ends- just ask. |
